H90J Activities - Update
Although a number of big restrictions were lifted this afternoon, it doesn't look like we're able to re-open the club as yet.
The last update from England Athletics says coaching can take place with 1 coach to 5 people, but this requires a planned, risk-assessed session. Larger gatherings, general groups and indoor meet-ups don't yet appear to be supported by the changes announced today. (Gyms are still closed, for example.)
We're waiting for the updated England Athletics guidance in light of today's announcement to see what our next steps are. Rest assured that we will get the club back running as soon as it is safe to do so.
In the meantime, groups of 6 are permitted, so you should feel free to organise runs (as many of us have been) in this time. If anyone wants to meet in an open space starting point at any particular times, then please feel free to announce it in the club Facebook group and self-arrange.
Take care, have fun, and keep running!
Virtual Midweek 5
In their 30th Anniversary Year, Havering '90 Joggers held their annual Midweek 5 mile event as a virtual race. Club members ran in various locations around the Borough individually and in teams of up to 6 during our "Run Happy" week designated by club head coach Dave Sherman. Some fun and fantastic times were achieved by almost 70 competitors with overall winners:
1st female Jo Reeves (34:59); 2nd female Kaye Huggins (36:03)
1st male Danny Meredith (31:21); 2nd male Brian Fry (32:58)
Team winners were "Lockdown On Legs" with an average time of 37:55 and 2nd were "Chocs Away Chaps" (38:33).
A special "Run For Fun" prize was awarded to the COVID Cobras for running to Hylands Park to add their painted stones to the Snake.
30 Miles In 30 Days (For 30 Years Of H90J)
It's our birthday, and to celebrate, Mel Green has organised a virtual event: run 30 miles in 30 days. Entry is in the region of £4 and everyone who takes part will receive a commemorative medal. Please speak to Mel Green if you want to enter.
30th Anniversary Celebrations
Sat 6 Jun would have been our 30th Anniversary Party. While on lockdown, the members have been creating their own Strava art and running a socially-distanced relay. (Team photo from a previous time!) Thanks to Gary Flint, Mel Green and Mel Wiltshire for putting this together, and all the members for their enthusiasm in doing the runs to put this together!
Coronavirus Update - Jun 2020
On behalf of the Committee I hope you are all keeping well and maintaining your physical and mental fitness. I know that some of you have suffered badly with the virus and hope that you are making a full recovery.
There is talk of schools and gyms re-opening however it is unlikely that gatherings the size that we have on a Tuesday and Thursday evening would be permitted for some time, whether this be within the school or outside. It is however, permitted that you can meet up with 6 people from different households provided you keep you 2 metre distance and so it may be that you can reunite with your running buddies. However, as you have probably all experienced the streets and parks are heavily populated with others taking their daily exercise and so this could be challenging.
England Athletic have at this stage put membership on hold until August 2020 with no advice on when we can hold our AGM or resume club activities. We will continue to monitor this and advise when known. We are also reviewing the feasibility of the dinner dance being able to proceed in November. Watch this space.
I would like to thank the coaches for their weekly posts to keep us motivated, and the various individuals who have arranged the virtual park run, the house relay, the hilltop selfie and making letters and numbers on strava to make up the word Havering 90. If you have any other ideas or want to organise something please feel free and post accordingly, but please keep within the government guidelines.
Hope we can all meet up soon, but in the meantime please keep safe and keep in touch.
